November Nidra – pleasure = + consciousness?

Volunteers required

Thursdays 5th 12th 19th 26th  November 6.30pm – 7.15pm

On Zoom

Pay what you can

The feeling of peace eludes us. Even with a regular meditation practice, it’s more often that we sit with the noisy chatter rather than the expansive calm, trust and wonder that we crave. The harder we pursue it in fact, the more elusive it becomes!

Would you join me in an experiment?

Through my work as a bodyworker and facilitator, as well as in my yoga practice, I am noticing how pleasurable sensation can be a gateway into these longed-for, more ‘spiritual’ places. The everyday feeling of clothes or air on skin, the reassurance of muscle and bone can be used as a pathway to take us deeper.

As we pay close attention to sensation, it holds the potential to become pleasurable, which holds the potential to become…. cosmic!

As humans, we’re hard-wired to give more attention to pain and as we know, what we give our attention to creates our reality. November Nidra will explore what might happen if we focused on the good stuff in the body, the lovely things that happen all the time without us even noticing at all? Right under our noses! Yoga Nidra is the perfect vehicle for this because it requires no effort and cannot be done wrong.

As we approach winter, it’s the perfect time to rest, drop down and connect with yourself and as part of my training at Yoga Nidra Network, I am offering four exploratory Yoga Nidra sessions. The intention is to explore with the connection between pleasurable sensation in the physical body and expanded consciousness, which will be presented to my tutors as a case study.

What happens?

We’ll gather on Zoom on Thursday evenings over four weeks, after a brief check-in, you’ll get cosy and I’ll guide you into Yoga Nidra for around 20-25 minutes. Afterwards there’ll be time for feedback and for you to say what you enjoyed and what was not so good for you. Your tastes, preferences and responses will be woven into the Nidra for the following week. If you have to miss a session, there’ll be a recording and the capability to send me your feedback later.

Your commitment

The Nidras are co-created together from your feedback, so I ask that if you sign up, you attend all four sessions. If you can’t make all four, there’ll be a recording for you to listen to in your own time. Your feedback, of any kind, is integral to the experiment, so I ask that you either give verbal or brief written feedback after each session.

Payment is by donation, just pay what you are able. All profits are going to The Dahlia Project which offers free counselling to people affected by female genital mutilation.

What’s Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that requires no expertise or experience, only the willingness to be relatively still for twenty minutes or so. You can fall asleep (most people do), you can get really comfy and you can cosy up with all your favourite blankets and cushions. It’s heavenly!

It also has profound healing effects, offering not only rest but also the heightened awareness of a profound spiritual practice. Under a blanket! If you’re tempted but not quite sure, you’re welcome to drop me a line or you could listen to this recording here.

My style is permissive, gentle and trauma aware. My intention is to hold space for you with sensitivity so you can drop into your deeper consciousness.

Who is this for?

Adults of all ages, genders, colours and cultures are welcome to join. All that’s required is an openness to connect with your body, explore consciousness and participate in co-creating the Nidras by offering feedback. No previous experience or special cleverness is required.

Confidentiality

Only the Nidras will be recorded in the sessions. Your feedback, if you prefer to give it afterwards, will be anonymous. Your participation and identity will not be shared outside of the group. For more about confidentiality, you can see how I take care of that here.

How to join the experiment
